Broadcasting Services employs a full-time staff of 17 and a number of part-time students from the University of Iowa. Additionally, many members of the Eastern Iowa community volunteer their time and talent to the station. Here is who we are, what we do, and how to contact us.

WSUI/KSUI Interim Director of Marketing
Nancy hosts KSUI's Morning Program from 9am to noon weekdays. In addition she produces the Cedar Rapids Symphony broadcasts heard each month on KSUI and guest hosts KSUI's Know the Score. An accomplished singer, Nancy has appeared with the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra, Quad City Mozart Festival, Waterloo/Cedar Falls Metropolitan Chorale, La Fosse Baroque Ensemble, early music ensemble Fiocchi di Granturco, University of Iowa Opera Theatre and UI Symphony Orchestra. A champion of 'new' music, she has premiered a number of works and appeared with the University of Iowa Center for New Music, Midwest Composers Symposium and the Iowa Composers Forum. Fond of musical theatre, Nancy is an active member of the Iowa City Community Theatre.

Ben returned to his home state of Iowa in 2001, after living and working for over a decade in Europe. Based in Germany, he worked as a public radio correspondent/editor/host and covered the peaceful revolutions in Eastern Europe.
Ben now hosts The Exchange, Iowa Public Radio’s live daily conversation at 10 a.m. with newsmakers and community leaders, artists and scientists. In addition, he hosts and produces the café music program Java Blend. Java Blend serves up fresh-brewed performances and conversation with musicians from around the state and around the country. Recorded before a live audience at The Java House in downtown Iowa City and broadcast weekends on Iowa Public Radio, the one-hour show offers an eclectic mix of live tunes from the vibrant independent music scene.

Percussionist Dan Moore offers a particularly strong knowledge of multicultural music. Moore, best known locally for his work with the popular University of Iowa Pan-American Steel Band, is an internationally recognized percussionist, composer and expert in world music. He is director of percussion studies at the University of Iowa.

Barney hosts KSUI's Afternoon Program (and sometimes WSUI's Talk of Iowa). His writing has appeared in such publications as The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Los Angeles Times, and Journal of the American Musicological Society, as well as the Encyclopedia of Aesthetics (1998) and Cambridge Companion to Conducting (2003). His books include Inside Early Music (Oxford University Press) and Performing Brahms (Cambridge University Press), which won the 2004 classical award from the Association for Recorded Sound Collections. Steve began his broadcast career with WSUI/KSUI in October of 1966. From 1968 through 1972, he was with the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service, in the Air Force, stationed numerous places in this country, and at Trabzon and Diyarbakir, Turkey, briefly in Vietnam, and
lastly, Ubon, Thailand, where he met his wife, Playung. For twenty-seven years, he ran "The Collector's Vault", an international tape recording service, specializing in rare opera and concert performances, rare discs,etc. He maintains this name for his series, running on the Golden Music Memories web service.

WSUI-AM 910, your NPR News and Information Station, is licensed to The University of Iowa. WSUI operates with a daytime power of 5,000 watts and a nighttime directional power of 5,000 watts from a transmitter located south of Iowa City. WSUI's studios are located at 710 S. Clinton Street, Iowa City, IA 52242.

WSUI had its beginning in 1919 in the basement of the University of Iowa Physics Building. Starting with the operation of a 10-watt transmitter under the call sign 9YA, the station is the oldest educational broadcasting station west of the Mississippi River, making the University of Iowa a pioneer in public broadcasting.

KSUI 91.7 FM, Classical Music Radio, is licensed to The University of Iowa. KSUI broadcasts with an effective radiated power of 100,000 watts from a transmitter located north of West Branch, Iowa. The KSUI studios are located at 710 S. Clinton Street, Iowa City, IA 52242.

KSUI began experimental FM broadcasts in 1948 and, in 1959, teamed up with sister station, WSUI-AM 910, to provide regularly scheduled stereophonic music broadcasts. In 1977, KSUI 91.7 FM went on the air full-time providing classical music programming to eastern Iowa.
