Todd Mundt returns to Iowa in August to oversee all programs and channels for Iowa Public Radio as its Director of Content and Media.

Mundt is no stranger to Iowa; he grew up in Boone and from 1994-1997 he worked at WOI as a producer and on-air host. He is a recognizable face to many Iowans from his presence on Iowa P
ublic Television fund drives and specials.

Mundt comes to IPR from Michigan Public Media where he served as Chief Content Officer. During his nine years in Michigan, he hosted the nationally syndicated Todd Mundt Show and helped MPM develop multi-platform projects involving radio, television and the Internet. He has been deeply involved in public radio’s exploration of new media, and for the past several weeks has served on a special National Public Radio (NPR) panel working to make public radio and television more relevant online.

“The media landscape is changing and people are using media in completely new ways, including blogs and podcasts. Public broadcasting must both hold true to its mission and stay current with changes in the media environment if we are to remain relevant to the communities we serve. Todd understands the opportunities for increased public radio service in this new environment and his enthusiasm for the challenge is contagious,” says Cindy Browne, IPR’s Executive Director.

Mundt arrives just as IPR is launching the Listening Project, an initiative designed to learn how Iowans feel about their communities and how they think public radio might support their efforts to make Iowa a better place to live, learn and work. With the slogan, “We’re All Ears,” the Listening Project will generate key listener, member and community input that will be used to plan the future programs and services to be provided by Iowa Public Radio.

“In coming together, Iowa Public Radio stations are stronger than ever,” Mundt said. “I’m proud to join Cindy and her dedicated team, creating new programs and services, on-air and online – an effort I hope will make IPR essential to all Iowans.”

Mundt, 38, graduated from Iowa State University with a B.A. in Political Science. He will be a regular presence at all of IPR’s radio stations, working from the IPR offices in Des Moines. He will be paid an annual salary of $85,000.

Iowa Public Radio was formed in 2005 to align the stations of the WOI Radio Group/Ames, KUNI-KHKE/Cedar Falls and KSUI-WSUI/Iowa City in greater service to the people of Iowa.
